Day 4 Colorado Springs to Roswell, NM

Today we drove 470 miles from Colorado Springs, Colorado to Roswell New Mexico. That brings our total mileage to date 1119 miles and many more to go. It was a long way to get to the Billy the Kid museum in Fort Sumner, New Mexico. I am a huge Billy the Kid fan and we thought it would be a good place to go since it is on the way to Carlsbad Caverns. We toured the museum that has a lot of items from the area including Billy the Kids rifle. It is a 44 caliber 1873 Winchester. It was cool. After the museum we drove about 5 miles to the gravesite of Billy the Kid. It was very interesting.

We decide to drive to Roswell for the night since that puts us closer to Carlsbad and Michelle was able to find us a great deal on a hotel. Thanks Marriott. On the way to Roswell we drove about 45 miles on NM highway 20 and saw a total of 6 cars going the opposite direction. Once we got onto 285 we saw a lot more. NM 20 is probably one of the most desolate highways I have ever been on. The road was so boring the kids fell asleep.
