Day 21 Independence to Tahlequah, OK

At the start of today we had been talking about going to St. Louis, but realized we couldn't get a good priced room so we changed our focus a bit. We decided to head South to The Cherokee (Tsa-la-gi) capital of Tahlequah. It was a decent drive. It was about 5 hours and 289 miles. Bringing our total mileage up to 5570. After a dinner we drove around a bit and wound up at Northeastern State University. We walked the campus a little bit and saw a statue of Sequoyah, the Cherokee clan symbols, and the women's seminary building. Everything was closed up by the time we got there, so we will check it out more tomorrow.

Tomorrow we are going to try a float on the Illinois River, then check out all the other stuff around here. The Cherokee Heritage Center is on the list and then whatever else we might come across in our day.
Some of the Street names near the University are in English and Cherokee.

Sora has been begging us for the last few days to try Oysters, so we went to the grocery store to get smoked oysters in a can. She tried a very teeny tiny piece. She didn't like it very much, but she didn't completely hate it.

Nakai thought the Oyster was worse than her and he didn't even try it.
