Day 15 Flagstaff to Buena Vista, CO

If you look at a map you can see that these two places are far apart. It was a long travel day. We traveled for almost 12 hours and covered 541 miles. This has been our longest day as of yet. I hope we don't have too many more of these days, 'cause I am wiped out.

We stopped a lot throughout the day for mostly bathroom breaks. One of the stops was at 4 corners. It was really windy there. It was cool because we got to be in 4 states at one time and also 2 times zones. Since Arizona runs on Pacific time and Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico all run on Mountain time, that is how we acquired the two time zone thing.

In Colorado just outside of just East of Durango we drove through a crazy wind storm that kicked up so much dirt that it was hard to see anything. Then going up Wolf Creek pass we were driving through smoke of a forest fire that was going on in the area. We drove through more smoke on the way from Center to Poncha Springs. We tried to stop in Salida for the night, but everything was booked due to Ride the Rockies. So we drove another 30 minutes or so to Buena Vista and found a lovely place at the Topaz Lodge.

Our room at the Topaz.
It's a beaut. enit?

We drove  a lot today, because we have to get back to Wyoming tomorrow. The drive tomorrow won't be as long as today. It will be a lot better.

Here are a few quotes from the day:

As we were driving through some of the Mountains Nakai asked what elevation we were at and Michelle saw a sign and she answered back, "we are at 8180 feet." Nakai says, "8180 feet above square root?"

Then we stopped at Walmart to use the restroom and while Michelle and Sora were in the woman's restroom Sora noticed the tampon and pad dispenser. The pads were called "napkins." Sora told Michelle, "25 cents for a napkin. This place is a rip off."
