Day 32 Let the Rain Come Down.

We all slept in today. I guess we needed the extra sleep after our beach day. We drove to Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. The day started off good as we first went on a boat ride around an area that used to be an old Rice field. Rice was big time around before Civil War times. While motoring around we saw about 6 Alligators, a couple of Herons, an Egret, and an Osprey. Sora was worried about seeing Alligators because she thought they would want to eat us.
After the boat we wondered around for awhile and it started raining on us. We found some shelter by one of the houses for a few minutes until it let up a bit. We decided to go to the horticulture maze even though it was still slightly raining. Going through the maze we walked through big puddles of water. It rained more and we kept walking. It was kind of nice to walk through the rain since we haven't been rain at all so far this Summer.

After Magnolia we were soaked and needed dry clothes. After a quick change at the hotel we went back out to check out JICP (James Island County Park) where I used to work. We stopped for a few minutes at the Tidal Creek. The creek was my favorite place to go Crabbing. We walked around here for a few minutes and saw about 100 little crabs near the bank in the muddy grassy areas.

We drove downtown to see Rainbow Row and across the bridge to Mt. Pleasant, then to a great place for gelato. Today was a pretty good day. Tomorrow we are going to Cherokee North Carolina. There we are planning on going to a Pow-Wow, Great Smoky Mountains, maybe the Biltmore, fireworks on the 4th, and whatever else we can find in the area.

Day 31 goofing off at Folly Beach

Wind and Waves

Today we headed for Folly Beach. Folly is the place where I learned to Surf 13 years ago when I was here for my internship. It was cool today because this makes 2 different Oceans in the same Summer. We were at the Pacific a few weeks ago and now the Atlantic. Pretty cool. The kids, Michelle, and I played in the water, sand, wind, and sun for about 4 hours or so. It was a pretty good time, but we should have put on more sunscreen than we did. We started off the day with some on, but didn't put more on afterwards and we all have burns. After the Beach it was back to the Hotel for Showers to get all the sand out of our nooks and crannies. With the wind blowing kind of hard today we wound up having sand just about everywhere. We all loved it. The water is warmer here than it was in California. I got in a couple of good body surfs and a good time was had by all.

Funny for the day: At Dinner our waiter was really nice and we got onto the subject of math and he said the kids were pretty good. He said that he is studying calculus right now because hewants to be an engineer. After he walked away Nakai says "I want to be a computer engineer." Sora speaks up, "So you can work at Best Buy." It was all Michelle and I could do to not laugh at that. No offense to anyone who works at Best Buy, but it was a little comical.

Tomorrow we are going to Downtown, Rainbow Row, Cypress Gardens or Magnolia Plantation, James Island County Park, and whatever else we can in the day.

Day 30 Atlanta to Charleston, SC

We headed out of the ATL. for the place I did my Internship 13 years ago. Good 'ole South Carolina. After getting here we got some food and headed downtown for  Charleston Riverdog Baseball game. When I lived here I went to a lot of games and thought the kids would enjoy it. There was also a firework show after the game. The Riverdogs were playing the Hickory Crawdads. It was a good game especially since the Dogs shut out the Crawdads 5-0.
The kids loved the firework show. Here is what they said afterward.
Nakai -- "My friends back home would never believe this."
Sora -- "I'm right here and I don't believe it."

We are staying in North Charleston about 15 minutes from downtown and they both crashed in the car on the way back to the hotel. We are going to be staying here 3 nights, so we can see all the cool stuff around here like the beach, the gardens, the historical stuff, etc.
