Day 54 Glacier National Park

Today when we got up it was chilly so the kids put their coats on and Sora also had on her hat.  After some cereal we headed to Glacier National Park. We stopped at the visitors center first so the kids could pick up their Junior Ranger books and we headed to the main road through the park.  This road is a 50 mile road you can drive that is called "Going to the Sun Road".  It has lots for turns and twists and is pretty steep but the scenery is beautiful.  The river going through the park was this lovely teal color and we could not get enough of it.  It was so amazing.
The picture does not do it justice.  We stopped a few times to take pictures and near the summit Nathan spotted some Mountain Goats.  There was a visitors center just a little ways from the mountain goats but parking was full and nuts so we tried to turn around a get a picture but there was to much traffic and not a good spot to get a picture, but it was pretty cool to see them munching on the grass anyway.  We then continued on the road and stopped to check out a hiking trail.  We found a trail to a waterfall that was about a half a mile away so we grabbed our water bottles and started walking. It was lovely and the spray from the waterfall was really nice since it was very hot.  We enjoyed the waterfall a few minutes and decided to keep going on a trail close to the falls.

The trail took us to a huge lake.  We were going to walk a little further but Nakai got a bloody nose so we turned back and headed for the car.  On the way back a snake slithered across the trail and Sora and I saw the tail of it.  She was pretty excited about it.  We continued on the road until the other end of the park where we decided we were hungry and got some food.

The kids finished their Junior Ranger books while we were waiting for our food so we stopped at the visitors center before we headed back over the "Going to the Sun Road".  They had to talk to a Ranger before they could officially become Jr. Rangers so Sora asked the Ranger about bear attacks and Nakai asked a question about if the glaciers would get bigger. Then Sora told the Ranger about the Snake and Nakai told her about the Mountain Goats.  Then they took their oath and received their 13th Jr. Ranger Badge.
After the drive back we went to camp to get ice cream for "ICE CREAM MONDAY!" We hung out at the camp for a while and then went back to Apgar Amphitheatre for a Native American Program.  We thought it was going to be Jack Gladstone but once we got their it was going to be a guy from the Salish. The main speaker didn't show up this 87 year old Ranger that had worked at the park for 53 years talked about Native American history and issues. He had been a history teacher so he loved to talk. It ended up being pretty entertaining even though it wasn't what we were expecting.  We then headed back to camp and started a fire. The kids had made a "fireputterouter" so we had to test it.  Then off to bed after another busy day.
