Day 41 Last Day in DC

This morning we got up and took the Metro to a stop near the zoo.  It was the first time the kids have ever been on a subway or any kind of mass transit system.  They thought it was really cool.

It was a short downhill walk to the zoo from Metro. It started to rain on us a little, but we were prepared and brought our ponchos.  At the zoo we saw lots of cool animals and some not so cool pushy little kids.

In the part of the zoo called the Amazonia the animals are free to roam in the building.  There is also what they call the "O Line" which are ropes that allow the Orangutans to go from one building across the zoo to another building above everyone's heads.  They have the choice to sleep in one of the two buildings.  They also had some Pandas, Sora was really excited about that.

It rained off and on while we were at the zoo but not a heavy rain.  After a couple of hours at the zoo we took the Metro back downtown and walked from there to the Lincoln Monument.  It was probably a mile or a mile and half from Metro to the Lincoln Monument and the kids did not complain at all.

After the Lincoln Monument we walked by the Vietnam Memorial and to the White House.

We then headed back to the hotel.  We got back to the hotel a few minutes after 5 got our van and headed to West Virginia to stay with Nathan's Aunt again.  It took about 2 hours to get there.  She made us some quesadillas for dinner, we watched some tv and went to bed.  We are guessing we walked at least 5 miles.
