On the way to the Dunes we stopped just outside of Alamogordo at the worlds largest pistachio. They have about 12 different pistachios and brittle to taste. They had garlic, lemon-lime, red chili, green chili, habanero-lime, cinnamon, and many more. I tried them all. They also had wines for sale and Michelle bought a, yep you guessed it, a pistachio wine. We haven't tried it yet, but we will let you know how it is when we finally do get a chance.
We then drove to the White Sand Dunes. When we go there we watched a movie about the area and the kids received their Junior Ranger packets. The monument isn't a large area, but it is really cool. We stopped at a spot where we could climb around and play and be silly. Nakai and Sora LOVED IT. They had so much fun playing in it, burying their feet, rolling in it, making sand angels, burying themselves, climbing up, sliding down, and even trying to bury their mother in it. A fun time was had by all. The kids also did very well at earning another Junior Ranger Badge.
The kids had so much fun today. Here are a few of their funny comments/phrases from the day.
Sora: "Rocking Chair Road, maybe it's called that because there are a lot of retirement homes."
Nakai: "You are half man and half wo, but I don't know what the wo is?"
Sora: "It's like snow, with plants."
Nakai: while running to a dune he said "AAAHHH, I'm Freaking Out!"
Miles travelled today 304.
